Jaco qualified in 1998 as a Chartered Accountant, CA (SA), who is commercially astute with a strong background at executive level.
Jaco played a significant role in the capacities of Financial and Managing Director in his corporate career, establishing successful financial and business strategies that created economic value for shareholders.
Jaco has more than 20 years financial management experience which include corporate finance, investments, merger and acquisitions, tax and fund raising. After his Articles at PWC, he joined a newly established private hospital group as Financial Manager where he successfully implemented new financial systems, internal control procedures and systems which brought valuable insight in the services industry and the challenges of a start-up business.
To broaden his experience, Jaco moved to one of the largest agricultural companies in Africa where he initially headed up the internal audit division after which he was appointed as CFO of the Retail and Mechanisation’s division which provided farming input, general merchandise products as well as heavy duty agricultural equipment, parts and workshop services (John Deere and New Holland) through a retail network of 23 outlets with a turnover of more than R1.2 billion. As the financial business partner of the divisional CEO, they successfully turned the business around from a loss making business to a division delivering net profit of more than R60 million in three years. This was the ideal experience to learn the skill of turning a business around with all the legal, operational, human resources and customer engagement requirements involved.
After this, Jaco joined a national supplier and distributor of more than 18 000 industrial products, general merchandise and irrigation products through two warehouses to the retail and industrial markets in sub-Saharan Africa. By nature of the business, Jaco had to introduce forex hedging strategies and credit management of more than 2000 customers including credit insurance. During his tenure, several house brands were developed and the company acted as principle distributor of several well known European and Japanese manufacturers. He joined the company as financial director and ended up as Managing Director of the company.
During the course of his career, Jaco was involved in implementing and managing ERP systems like SAP, Syspro as well as business intelligence software. With his hands-on approach, his involvement in the operations of the business included supply chain management, procurement, warehousing and distribution, inventory management and demand planning. He gained experience in managing a national retail franchise and also served as a trustee and Vice Chairman on the board of a corporate pension and provident fund over a five year tenure.
