Andrew Lancefield – Principal, Western Cape
Chartered Accountant Andrew Lancefield has extensive experience as both Finance and Operations Director within South Africa and at a regional level across the continent. He is skilled at defining business strategy , and in implementing the strategy, and for ensuring that there is a common goal for all stakeholders. Andrew is passionate about driving commerciality , and in growing his staff. He has a particular aptitude for getting to the story behind the numbers and has had vast experience in designing and implementing solid financial and operating systems to achieve the company goals.
Andrew has significant experience in mergers, both from a financial, HR, legal and operations point of view.
Andrew did his articles at Arthur Young ( now part of E&Y) after completing his B.Comm / CTA at the University of Cape Town in 1985. Two years as Financial Manager with the Barlows Group followed, after which Andrew joined Research Surveys, which sold out to TNS and later became part of the Kantar Division of the WPP Group.
After two years as Financial Manager at Research Surveys, Andrew was promoted to Financial Director. In addition to running the finance side, this role saw Andrew getting involved in operations, HR and IT.
Later, as joint MD, at the time, Research Surveys sold out to TNS, an international company. Andrew helped set up the negotiations and sale as well as a BEE and management scheme. As COO for South Africa (Operations, Finance and IT), he was involved in designing and implementing systems to ensure the timeous collection and delivery of research data from some 1500 field-workers and for ensuring relevant and meaningful financial information. Andrew gained experience in costing projects and in measuring project profitability and staff utilisation.
From 2014 to 2016, Andrew was Regional COO of TNS (Africa, Mediterranean and Middle East), with finance, operations and IT responsibilities across 14 countries. Andrew’s work in setting up costing systems, implementing a regional commercialisation strategy, and integrating new business acquisitions yielded significant results.
South Africa was for many years the most profitable country in TNS’ international stable, and many of the systems developed and implemented while Andrew was COO were copied for use across the global stable.
Andrew, an avid fan of cricket and rugby, loves nothing more than travelling with his large family − mountain biking, trail running and enjoying the bush.
