Dilip Kalyan, Principal – KZN
Since qualifying as a CA(SA) in 1988 at Deloitte, Dilip Kalyan has amassed extensive experience in a number of industries, from clothing and textiles (where he started his career at SA Clothing Industries, part of the listed Seardel Group, in 1989), to auditing, industrials, retail, manufacturing and NPOs.
Between 2012 and 2014, Dilip spent time nurturing private ventures, which allowed him to hone his general management skills and gain insight into more industries. Involved in all operations as he was, he enhanced his overall understanding of business.
Dilip joined the Africa Health Research Institute (previously K-RITH) as CFO in May 2014. He set up effective, fit for purpose, financial systems, policies, procedures and trained the finance teams to implement these which resulted in the organisation being financially well managed, healthy and strong. The organisation grew five times to become an internationally recognised and funded research institute. Dilip played a key role in the merger between K-RITH and Africa Centre, which culminated in the organisation’s current guise. Further highlights during this time include the creation and implementation of a risk management programme, and the initiation of a MDP programme, both of which received wide support from within the organisation.
Dilip’s skill has been developed through experience in matters related to Board, Audit and Risk Committees. He is a strategic thinker and a team player with a talent for mentoring and motivating others. He has a strong commercial sense, and is a good communicator and listener. Adept at applying best practices and governance models, Dilip is an independent non-executive Director, a member of audit and risk committees and a consultant. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Directors of South Africa.
Both of Dilip’s adult sons have followed in his footsteps as a CA(SA). He has a wide array of interests from sports to swimming, yoga, reading and sketching to gardening.
