Robert Walsh, Principal – Western Cape
Robert Walsh has evolved an unerring talent for solving business problems through a career which has enjoyed a special focus on retail, manufacturing and IS.
Key roles include a stint at the PG Group where, as Finance Director to various divisions, he was responsible for the restructure of divisions and development of a new five-year financial plan, working capital investment and forensic accounting.
In 2012, Robert was appointed Global IS Financial Manager at SAB Miller Information Systems. During his three years at this post, Robert established an Africa IS finance capability to manage the Africa IS region, which encompasses 16 countries and entities with a budget of $25 million. Robert was a member of the Global IS Commercial Board and the executive teams of the Global Solution Organisation and Global Template Organisation.
Upon joining the Deli Spices Group as CFO in 2015, Robert was appointed a member of both the Board and Exco. Here, his responsibilities included heading up the finance, business intelligence and information technology departments for the group. His accomplishments included the establishment of a centralized treasury, centralizing financial management, restructuring several group companies into a single entity and standardizing accounting software into a single Syspro platform. As part of this, Robert oversaw Mane France’s acquisition of a 50% shareholding in Deli Spices and the acquisition of minority shareholders, ultimately seeing the group consolidated onto a unified ERP and warehouse management system.
Robert has developed significant experience with SAP systems over the course of his career, having improved the visibility of SAP deployment costs across 19 countries by developing and deploying costing models and implementing a SAP procure-to-pay system.
His exposure means that he is comfortable operating in many different business models, from the standard and direct costing of manufacturing to IS project implementation, warehousing and distribution, automotive retail, furniture retail and investment. Robert’s core skills range from financial reporting to budgeting, corporate finance, cost analysis, strategic financial planning, profitability, performance improvement, mergers and acquisition, managing teams and people and all CFO-related functions.
