Theresa Henning, Principal – Mozambique
Theresa Henning is a well-rounded practitioner, having held the title of CFO of a major multinational while simultaneously building her own consultancy.
Theresa joined Glencore Mozambique as CFO in 2018, prior to which she worked at Mozal, an aluminium smelter which was part of the BHP Billiton Group and later demerged to South32.
Having established Optima Consulting, a financial advisory consultancy targeting small and medium businesses, in 2016, Theresa has a thorough understanding of the entrepreneurial mindset and has honed excellent skills in this regard. Developing this into a fully-fledged enterprise while steering the multinational Glencore has been presented some exciting opportunities for growth.
Having specialised in Mozambique’s statutory and taxation systems, Theresa is especially adept at navigating an ever-changing business environment. Her focus at Glencore Mozambique was on meeting the requirements of the Mozambican business environment while ensuring that reporting is conducted to international standards. She also prepared and analysed monthly and annual management reporting and accounts (including the compilation of annual financial statements, Mozambican taxation review and analysis, and submissions), and she was in charge of preparing and overseeing management and Board meetings. As manager of her team, her duties encompassed performance management and reviews. Theresa also conducted budget preparations and review, and she was called upon for project-focused problem solving and account reconciliations and corrections, as well as the implementation of ERP systems and projects.
She prides herself on working closely with clients and forging relationships that help her understand and diagnose issues in a clear and direct manner. Providing alternatives for decision-making is another of her strengths.
Theresa qualified with a BRek from Stellenbosch University in 2008, and received her BCompt Hons from the University of South Africa. She qualified as a CA(SA) in 2012.
